PARIS, July 28 (Xinhua) -- French consumers were less optimistic about their financial and economic situation in July, with the index down by two points from a month earlier, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) said on Wednesday.

However, standing at 101, the consumer confidence synthetic index remained above its long-term average of 100, according to INSEE monthly economic report.

In July, the share of households which consider it is a suitable time to make major purchases has decreased markedly, after a sharp increase in June. The corresponding balance has lost five points but remains above its long-term average.

The share of households that believe the standard of living in France will improve in the next 12 months has decreased markedly. The corresponding balance has lost eight points.
