WASHINGTON DC - U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the current U.S. Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke will step down from his post in the next two weeks.

The Trump administration which has seen an escalating rise in departures from top jobs since its inception, said an announcement on a replacement for Zinke will be made next week.

Consistent with major breaking news out of the White House, the announcement about Zinke was made on Twitter in a post on the president's account page.

"Secretary of the Interior @RyanZinke will be leaving the Administration at the end of the year after having served for a period of almost two years. Ryan has accomplished much during his tenure and I want to thank him for his service to our Nation," Mr Trump posted.

Zinke has been under pressure from a series of ethics investigations looking into his travel arrangements, policy decisions and business dealings. He too took to Twitter on Saturday to let his sentiments be known.

"I love working for the President and am incredibly proud of all the good work we've accomplished together. However, after 30 years of public service, I cannot justify spending thousands of dollars defending myself and my family against false allegations," he tweeted.

Nancy Pelosi, the Minority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives added to the pressure on Zinke by tweeting: "@SecretaryZinke has been a shameless handmaiden for the special interests, his staggering ethical abuses have dealt a lasting blow to America's public land resources."
